This first person narrative memoir is based on a factual account. The protagonist, Alex Bravo, a Bulgarian, narrates his story that spans some 40+ years of his life. It is riveting page-turner about how he becomes involved at the age of 20 in a Pyramid Scheme in exchange for U.S. Passport. The time in Bulgaria when this occurs is a year after the end of the Communist Regime when young Bulgarian entrepreneurs are unleashing their dreams of going to America, the Land of the Free.
Alex, or Paul, as he becomes known in the U.S., has dreamed of going to America since he was a child. Blinded with his desire, he agrees to sign his name to investment contracts that promise an extraordinary return on investment for clients. He naively thinks that a passport to the U.S. is worth the risk. But little does he know that his lifetime belief in the powers of creating bad Karma will lead him down a path to dissolution of identity, both practically speaking and psycho-spiritually. Karma and the Kundalini awakening is the active Antagonist Alex must struggle with for the next twenty years of his life. He loses everything, including his homeland and his family. His only peace of mind to be had is his love of Nature and Hiking. This outlet becomes his redeeming grace, but not before the Kundalini Snake takes its toll on a young Alex, in the beginning innocent of any wrongdoing and filled with desire to go to America.
This is a story about a naive young man who underestimates the cost of realizing a dream. It is a Faust story of selling your soul to the devil for a dream, his struggles and anguish when realizing the extent of his wrongdoing and his hope for eventual forgiveness and redemption from a Source of greater power than mankind possesses.
Alex's story crosses the boundaries of culture, language, age and physical limitations and enters into the realm of spirituality. It is bluntly honest and open in the protagonist's self-condemnation and regret and hopeful redemption. It is a significant read for anyone and everyone.

BAD KARMA How I Hiked Out Of It eBook Alexander Bravo Di Finch Reviews
A captivating true story of a young man with a big dream and an even bigger heart, who embarks on a journey and manages to let go of his interpersonal struggles and problems with the law. His diverse experiences depict his passion for life, and his perseverance, leading him to embrace the wisdom of nature. Empowering are the series of events leading to this man’s epiphany and certainly worth reading, learning from and passing on to those who we love.
This book is an inspirational story of one mans journey to stop at nothing to get to America. The author goes to great lengths to live out his dream of one day becoming an American citizen. Karma is always lingering in the back of his mind for some things he's done in his past. This story can be an example of how Karma catches up to all of us one day as it did for Alexander. He finds relief through meditation and in the end finds peace within himself. Great read!!!
I really like this book. This is a true life story which shows you that the real success in life is to find the key of your spirit, to find and understand yourself and to follow your dreams.Everything happens for a reason in life-people we meet, situations and decisions we take are part of the life-puzzle which we create........... or experience. I have learned a lot from the autor's experience. Thank you Alexsnder Bravo for the great book.
Bravo's life is inspiring. In "Bad Karma and How I Hiked Out of It", he admits to taking advantage of his fellow Bulgarians in order to escape the grasp of communism. It is a story of deception, bravery, adventure, misfortune, redemption, and love. Everyone has a story to tell and Bravo's story is nothing short of extraordinary. His naive actions as a young man are innocent, yet severely consequential, causing him to be separated from his family for years. It is extremely interesting to hear the first-hand account of the sacrifices people make to chase the "American Dream". Bravo's ambition is admirable and his memoir is a perfect example of how life can be unpredictable yet forgiving for those who have pure intentions.
Enjoyed reading the book and was fascinating to read about ones life journey growing up in Bulgaria just 20+ years ago. I could not imagine how it would feel to have such a strong desire to come to the United States and leave behind his family and his identity. It makes you stop and think about how important it is to really think about the choices you make and how it will affect your life or other people. Being honest with yourself can be tough sometimes and Alex was able to do that by turning to nature and discover his spirituality. It was fascinating to learn how life was in Bulgaria 20+ years ago. Great read and would recommend!
What a masterpiece of one's life journey! Karma is the fruit (the good and/or bad effects) of action. Bad karma is always connected to pain (the greatest curse of the soul), and is the language that God uses to communicate and guide you toward your own destiny. The only way to learn His language is by making mistakes. Alex made his mistakes, but then started to connect with the signs that were there to guide him, that silent voice within that leads to the place where he should be. His journey helped him connect with nature. In nature, he was not only able to see the beauty in his surroundings, but also the reflection of beauty in himself, helping him heal. This is a true story of one man's turbulent path towards his higher self. I highly recommend "Bad Karma & How I Hiked Out of it" to all readers looking to be inspired.
Great book about a mans determination to leave a country that most americans could not relate to. This former communist country in different times and conditions of today describes what leads this man to get out of this part of the world in oppressive times. The story is riveting, and personalized, which is what kept me turning the pages. This book is a real page turner. The story personalizes thoughts, feelings and a vivid composition of his spiritual growth during the entire journey. For Americans; it is hard to understand, relate to. The book does a great job of explaining leaving a country with less freedoms, both politically, economically and with such oppression is so important for him to escape. The book goes into detail about what it takes and what he had to go through during this journey, both during the trip to the USA and after he was here. Read it, I think you will be glad you did.
