You may not know the name Jim Halsey, but you certainly have heard names such as Roy Clark, The Oak Ridge Boys, Reba McEntyre, Tammy Wynette, Dwight Yoakam, Clint Black, Waylon Jennings, Lee Greenwood, James Brown, and many other entertainment giants. If it weren't for Jim Halsey, it's very possible these names would not be in the limelight, and they would still be "trying" to become stars. Because of Jim Halsey and his skillful mastery and knowledge, many country-music artists became stars due to his promotion and business capabilities. His country-music agency, known as number one in the world, led the industry to where it is now.
Although Jim Halsey no longer runs his agency, he shares his knowledge with those that have aspirations in the music industry. His experience is like none other as he explains the process one must endure to make it to the top. I was inspired right from the first chapter when Jim Halsey asks the question What is success, and how do you achieve it? At this point, before going any further into the book, the aspiring star must have a clear concept of their own goals, regardless of what is portrayed in the mass media, tabloids, or movies. Jim Halsey gently makes it clear to go within and search for that individual's specific direction and purpose. Once attained, the next step is a commitment to move forward to achieve excellence.
The basic steps are no different than wanting to achieve anything in life. However, the difference is how you do it. Jim Halsey advocates that, like any business, it's important to have a support team. One can't do everything alone and with collective energy and performance of team members, all aspects are covered.
Although Jim Halsey focuses on the music business, his astute business principles, direction and influence apply to any successful business. The difference is that he gives the reader the tools and explains in plain language what you must do to succeed in the music industry.
I personally enjoyed reading about many of the stars I know of, and their trials and tribulations inspired me to forge ahead with my own goals and visions. Jim Halsey is an amazing businessman who attributes his extraordinary career to a principle he calls his "Power of Performance." Regardless of your aspirations, I encourage you to read STARMAKER; it's an informative and compelling book.
No one qualifies better when it comes to a book on "star-making" than Jim Halsey. Since I've been in radio and on TV for over 60 years, I've kept up with Jim's awesome career since it began. All things considered, no one has managed more so-called "Super-Stars" than Jim. He simply has the talent to do the job! This book is a study in showmanship and how Jim Halsey has managed to manage the best. I recommend it!
